Musik ....a great addiction

So, now that we are done with the “hustle and bustle” of the season it’s time to get back down to business.  What business is that you may ask?  Well musik of course!  Real music, not that of the sounds of the ching-ching registers, people hurrying throughout the stores seeking out gifts for others, or the individuals honking their horns in frustration over the traffic jams.  No, the real, deep to the core gritty, wonderful sounds of MUSIK!
Just as each person has their own visions of how their lives should be playing; another is looking at the other judging.  You cannot judge a person by the music that they listen to because that person could be just expressing their frustrations in what would be most satisfying to their own tastes.  Just as a person who goes to the gym to lift weights, run on treadmills, ride bicycles, or the motorcyclists, and the like who all do their thing to relieve whatever stress that is going on in their lives.  In each of the cases, it is a healthy way of relieving the built up tension.  I would much rather someone do any of the above; listening to multiple genres of musik, working out, singing loudly, hopping on that dirt or street bike,  dancing and playing air guitars or air drums than use violence to solve their issues.
Now, as for myself, I incorporate my musikal tastes to suit my attitude or feelings, whichever word sits better at the moment.  I add my own self-soothing and selective tunes to that of a workout of weights and cardio, other times it’s when I am in the car or simply cleaning.  Not to mention that of when I write, as it gives the extra oomph that is needed sometimes to help make my points.
Another time music can be very helpful is when you are feeling down, it can provide that swift kick in the ass that you have needed to let another person know how you feel (without violence that is).  And if the person in question doesn’t want to understand what you are trying to say, instead of getting pissed off and storming away, get your tunes going.  It may be for another day for the discussion and while you may not be happy about it, you do know that there is another day to communicate as calmly as possible.  Easier said than done sometimes, trust me I know, but it works out better in the end!
Musik is an addiction, and a good one to have!  With so many different genres out there worldwide, and even in your own backyard, you can get your “fix” anytime, anywhere, and to your liking.  As I have stated in previous writings, I love many types of music that can be found.  From big band, to jazz, hip-hop, rock, classic rock, metal, heavy metal (yes there is a difference), alternative rock, garage bands, and so, so many in between.  I, also, highly support area bands and musicians that express themselves through their own music.
In essence, just remember not to judge another person by the music they listen to and use music to help you through whatever tension you are going through instead of resulting to violence.  I am not saying that all of my readers are violent, or if any of them are; however, I do know that everyone loses their tempers occasionally and am just suggesting that you turn and crank those tunes to help you through.   Never forget that music is a positive addiction to have and it’s a perfect thing to add to your life.  I will leave with you two videos, one from an area band, Wedgewood Brothers with one of their originals “Street Lights” from their debut E.P. (I’ve provided a link to their homepage as well if you are interested in ordering their cd) and the other video is from Papa Roach “Kick in the Teeth”.  Remember folks, please remember to not only support your favorite big bands, but that of your local band/musicians as the blood for success is just the same!

What's your setting?

What’s your setting?

Does your musik taste for the day equal out to what your spice would be for that day?  Or perhaps it lacks something?  Maybe it’s time to jazz it up a bit… see what happens.
Take your time, what are you feeling?  You know, on the inside.  Are you feeling sad, disappointed, displeased, angry, frustrated, pissed off, tired, lonely, or better yet happy and loved?  All of the negative emotions have the ability to be turned around into something positive….if you allow it.  The key is you!  The secondary key is music.  Keep reading and I will explain J
Depending on your particular mood, musik can have such a soothing feeling to ones’ full body or soul, if you prefer.  It can make the darkest of days feel like child’s play if you pick the right genre of music to lift those spirits of yours.  It’s all about your personal setting!  If someone or something has got you down in the dumps, so to speak, walk it off…find your inner self and jam those tunes!  As that cheesy saying goes “turn that frown upside down”, that’s exactly what you need to do.
Would you allow yourself to eat a blasé meal or would you spice it up a bit to make it better?  How about this, would you allow yourself to be angry all day at whomever or whatever…or can you envision your entire body to be free of the dark, negative energy?  It’s all about what you choose to do!  Only you can make you happy, others will try to help, while, unfortunately, others may continue to try to blast you down (don’t let them succeed).  A perfect release is your flavor of music.  If your regular genre isn’t doing the trick for you, kick it up a notch…find something that will “free your mind and the rest will follow” as the lyric is in En Vogues song.  It is true!!! Your body and mind will thank you J
For those of you on overload and want to slow things down a bit, switch your spices.  Instead of going heavy, turn to the jazz and blues groups.  They provide the much needed release while making you feel warm and cozy on the inside.
With every emotion there is a song that covers that feeling.  Always find the one that lifts you up if your down, comforts you if you are on overload, or releases the anger by allowing you to sing, yell, or pump your fists in the air along with the song.  Get up and get moving…find that perfect set of tunes for your energy that allows you to feel good!
Remember, music and spices are like one big cup of tea or joe.  They have the ability to interact with how you are feeling and how the day is going.  Keep true to yourself and allow the negative energies to subside by picking the best of the tunes that satisfy your needs.

Until next time, jam those tunes and live happy.  Don’t forget while you are supporting your favorite bands keep in mind about supporting your local bands and musicians who have the love of musik flowing through their veins just as the big groups!

Ah Musik!

Ah, musik!   We all know it comes from different origins.  Every country has its own background and styles, but they all come with an equal ground…to help.  How do you figure, some of you may ask?  Simply put, to relieve stress, anxiety, celebrations, and anything in between.

Stop and think about it…when was the first time that you, yourself, recall listening to music?  Were you a little kid listening to it at church, or maybe someone in your family sang around the home?  Everyone has their first recollection of listening to music and many times that is a fond memory for them.  Others were able to feel the music through its vibrations and determining which emotion to follow.

Musik is a glorious thing!  For me, I recall hearing all genres of music while growing up (something to which I passed onto my own children).  I can bet my last dollar that my parents sang to me when I was very little, but I honestly cannot remember.  My kids, however, probably can recall when I sang to them as I was only allowed to sing them two songs very well…but if I went past those two, to try another lullaby their little hands would cover my lips.  It didn’t bother me as I know I am not the best singer out thereJ.  They on the other hand, sing like angels!  Anyway, as a child of the 70s and teen in the 80s, my parents had albums from Iron Butterfly to CCR to Jimmy Horton to the hits of the 50s & 60s to Steppenwolf to Ricky Nelson to Waylon Jennings and just about everything in between!  Then it was the reel to reel player!  Ah what a glorious machine that was, by allowing you to record all of your albums onto multiple reel tapes for the ultimate playback.  The fantastic thing about this player was that you did not have to stop what you were doing to change the records on the stereo…it was all right there the A and B sides!  Of course, we had the 8 tracks as well, but sometimes those tapes would “get eaten”…kind of like the cassette tapes from time to time.  Nothing like having a good tape losing its’ use from having gotten screwed up in the machine that was playing.

How deep is your love of music?  Can you survive a day without it, or do you find yourself needing that “tune fix”?  For me, personally, I want to hear my musik every day.  The best job I had in the world (I don’t consider being a mother a job I feel it’s a blessing and a lifetime I wouldn’t change anything for.), was when I was a dj aka disc jockey some years ago.  It was AWESOME!  When you have a love of musik so great and you get the opportunity to become a dj or as some call it now “radio announcer” you jump on that chance.  Of course, I played all types of music…for whatever genre the station manager and owner wanted for certain time periods.  The time period I loved the most was in the late 80s when we had Anthrax, Metallica, AC/DC, Kiss and all in the middle.  However, I was able to adjust when we then went to an all country station, then the jump to all oldies.  Yes, it was always a pretty drastic change, but the owner/manager preferred to listen to whatever some of the people wanted.  Ironically enough when you live in a semi small community, the teens wanted the rock music, the baby boomers preferred the oldies, and the elders jumped at the joy of having country.  I guess you can say he satisfied everyone’s tastes in their music preferences.  Either way it was a great job to have…I still miss it from time to time.

My love of musik comes from years of enjoyment that have been graciously passed on from my parents.  Every day I listen to musik, whether it is on the radio, vinyl, mp3 player, even in the store.  And sometimes when I listen to my tunes you can catch me whistling through my teeth (a trait passed on from good ole dad J) so as not to freak others out with the sound of my singing voice haha.

I, too, hope that you have fond music memories which you can easily relate to in these modern times.  Remember that whatever type of music you prefer it is a healthy release from negative energies.  Stand strong, stand tall, enjoy life and listen to your tunes while you live your lives.

As always, don’t forget to also support your local band(s) and musician as the music flows just as thickly through their veins as it does the well-established bands.  Until next time, rock on and enjoy life!

Musik energy

Musik is an important aspect of my life.  It helps me to cope/deal with the crap that is going on in this crazy place we call “home”.  It doesn’t matter where you call your home, it’s the same there as it is anywhere else.  Don’t catch what I’m saying?  It’s simple, no matter where you live there is some sort of controversy going on, some person who is pushing our every wrong buttons, persons who are trying to cause undue harm to others….it’s crazy!  Whatever happened to when people would try to get along for anothers sake?  Before you ask, no I was not “sheltered” as a kid, I knew about a lot more things than some would think.  Wouldn’t it be nice if a lot of these individuals would turn their energies towards music?

I know it is a strange concept for some of my readers to understand why I ask about others turning their negative energies towards music.  However, I do have a logical explanation…well, it is for me anyway.  If more angered or dissatisfied people would listen to music it may help alleviate their personal feelings.  Now mind you, I did use the word “may” as I know it is possible it wouldn’t help everyone.  Its just a thought!!

As I have stated in some of my previous blog posts, musik helps me with my emotions.  In fact, before I started writing this post I was in one helluva mood, and I don’t mean it was very pleasant.  I admit I was pissed!  Yet, as I listened to my tunes it helped me to get to the point of being able to write an update to my blog posts and have you readers understanding what I am trying to get across than if I had just started writing.  In all honesty, I’m still listening to my music and its invigorating J !

Does anyone else find music energizing?  Like you could just get up, right now, from whatever you are doing and just move…dance, bust-a-move, etc?!  I’m finding it difficult to sit still while typing up my update, my legs are just a dancing, and sometimes when that perfect drum set comes across…I just have to stop and “help” them along (as if anyone could hear or see me haha—but you could imagine).  To be honest, I actually fit the song Freak Like Me by Halestorm.  Just by looking at my picture doesn’t mean anything.  Yes, I look the norm in society; but, I’m not haha.  I am me and love to be free, just moving with the music helps me to be that free individual that I know and love!!! (Time out drum solo time with Metallica ;) ) Okay back, minus one pen…it was lost during the drum solo haha.

Remember everyone you are all individuals in this crazy whirlwind of a place we call our life.  Music can help you express your emotions and it is definitely something to consider.  Spread the word peeps musik will help with whatever you are going through.  Be strong if it’s a difficult day and find those tunes that will uplift you or get you motivated in positive ways!

As always, don’t forget to support your local band or individual who has the music that is flowing through their veins just as it is with your favorite bands.  Open your ears to explore new music and you will be surprised as to what you find.  Until next time, crank those tunes and live life.

Change--its in the air

Change, people, it's in the air :)

Its that wonderful time of year again when the leaves begin changing, crispness in the evening air, and fire pits with friends surrounding it having a good time. With that brings change in the music/musik scene. We all love to hear what our favorite band is up to, when they are going to be putting out new releases or if they are taking a hiatus from touring. What is even grander is when a local band gets to make their first EP for their followers and newcomers with their own originals, or when a single musician also kicks it up a notch by providing a new take on a favorite tune by many...and can do it just as great.

So lets hit the days running and the nights walking. Enjoying what the musik can do for our bodies. Tell me you know to what I'm referring?! We all have musik that we listen to to get us through the work day and the musik we blast after off work...the "me" time. Then comes the weekend, for many not all, when its party "rock on" time! Relaxation time. Whether it be by the fire pits, at a concert or gig, on a road trip to a destination of your choosing, or even at home. Musik is portable, which is one of the awesome things about it. The second greatest thing about your tunes is the benefits it provides. Its a huge stress reliever, allows you to relax, express yourself whether your angry or ecstatic and everything in between. It gives you the ability to find your happy spot ;) that absolutely NO ONE can take from you!

Musik is ever-evolving, just like our everyday lives. New bands come just like new days and our ever favorite bands stand the test of time. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to change that for anything. Musik allows me to thrive through the most difficult times I may be having to the highest points in my life. I welcome new musik! Do you? If you can't honestly say that you have tried to expand your horizons past the comfort zone, it may be time to take in a band or musician that you may not think you like. You never know you might be surprised! I have albums (yes the vinyl records), cassettes, mp3 player, cd's, and my computer filled with sounds from the Big Band era to the modern aka alternative rock musik and everything in between. Of course, it helped that that's what my parents instilled in me -- to listen to all sorts of musik to find my niche. Then naturally I passed it on to my daughters who in turn turned me onto some other types of tunes I may not have listened to previously. You know what....I really like it and the great thing about it is between me and my daughters we were able to share something new with one another!!

Embrace your days and fill your nights with your selection of tunes, friends, and loved ones because time is flying by fast folks. Crank your musik and as Shirley & Lee, Jimi Hendrix, The Cars, Molly Hatchet and many, many more said once "Let the good times roll"! Open up your hearts and minds to new things, yes, including musik...and feel good about yourselves, dance, get your groove on. Live, love, spread happiness and joy through musik....you'll feel better ;) . And as always fellow jammers support your local musicians and bands because the love of musik is deep in their veins and hearts too!

Be sure to check out these awesome guys, first one is Wedgewood Brothers band, and the second is musician Tommie Orr::

Time is short, just like me.....

Time is short, just like me ;)

How are things in the cyber world versus that of your own world?  Are you staying true to yourself?  Are you visiting the cyber world for more musik options, or just to get away from reality? Some tough questions eh!

Here is a thought….why not listen to your musik while dealing with reality?  It’s something I do to help me deal with whatever crap may be going on with my own life or that in the world.  I know life can’t be sugar coated, and the news on the tube cannot either; yet, dealing with issues whether related directly or indirectly needs to have some sort of pattern.  Understand what I’m saying?  For those of you who don’t, what I am referring to is an escape mechanism—like musik.  If you’re in a pissed off mood, listen to something that gets the anger out of your system, if you are unhappy/sad, listen to something uplifting…you know something that gets you hoppin’—dancing, and well if you hear some good positive news—by all means listen to some tunes that allow you to express your giddiness even more.

Now, before I go any further, as I have stated in previous blogs, music thrives in my blood.  HOWEVER, if I have had a restless sleep, I will be the first to admit it takes me a little bit before I can listen to anything….including having conversations, but that’s just normal for anyone really.  When I have a few moments to allow myself to fully come out of my crap of a sleep night, music comes on, whether it’s on my musik player, my stereo- for my records, the Pandora on the television, or online radio stations.

Okay, now where were we?  Oh yes, get that musik going to help you deal with whatever issues you have been blessed with (notice the positive spin).  Make sure it gets you moving and / or screaming/singing along with the artist.  That’s the best part of it all.  If people look at you while you are expressing yourself through musik, give them a nod, smile, and continue jamming!  Just the other day, I was mowing the massive yard (acres), and I had my little RCA media player with my headphones on just a rockin’ along with my tunes.  You wouldn’t begin to believe how many people slowed down…I don’t know if it was because I was dancing while sitting on the mower-mowing, or if it was my singing hurting their ears (not the best singer…I leave that to others, I do it for fun).  Anyway, you can enjoy your music anywhere J

Tuneage helps keep your sanity strong.  It keeps stress at arms’ length, you can vocalize, dance, strut, jam, bust a move, relax, and other positive aspects.  The main focus is to help you believe in yourself, keep strong, keep living, keep pursuing your happiness, while spreading positive seeds deep into your soul and of course it doesn’t hurt if you take time out in your day to help give a positive note to somebody, whether they be someone you know or a stranger.

In the words of the song “Rusty Moon”...’When the world outside turns dark and cold, we’ll still get by. When it gets too dark to find our way home, we still got light ’.  That line there is a very true statement, as long as you allow yourself to believe in positive thoughts and happenings.  There is always light outside day or night, inside and out!

As always folks, don’t forget to support your local musicians as well as the big groups you also follow.  The local guys/gals have music in their veins as thick as mud…meaning they have the same “itch” as the big bands. Until next time::: Rock on, keep positive, and remember to spread the positive words too.

Everythings wild~

Everything that’s wild is crazzee and everything that’s crazzee is out there!!

Some may think, man she’s lost it; but, nah, I’m as normal as I want to be!! Theres nothing wrong with being your own self with your particular personality…that is unless you are a complete ass all the time, just my opinion though. HAH!

So how many of you just LOVE musik?? I mean live for, desire, breathe, eat, crave, long for??!! It doesn’t really matter what kind of musik you crave, its how good it makes you feel that’s important! Its how it runs in your veins of desire that turns that switch on for you. Know what I mean?! It allows you to become one with yourself and engrosses your entire body and brain to lose all your bars that you may have inside yourself….because your afraid of how someone might view you if you are different than another person! Hell, my whole thought is be yourself, if YOU want to change for you, then albeit do it, but if someone wants you to be someone YOU aren’t comfortable in being, stick to your guns. Eventually they’ll get it that that’s how you are designed. Every person should be allowed to be themselves without ridicule!! You can ask, just don't downgrade someone.

Another question, how many of you think—this gal just jumps all around with her thoughts?? Hah! Doesn’t bother me a bit—because I am who I am.

I simply write my thoughts and share them with you all out there who choose whether or not to continue reading them. I am writing them to not only spread how positive musik can be in our lives, if we choose to allow it, but to also reinforce to everyone to be yourself. Simple as that J Oh yes, I am one of those people who tends to put a smiley face when I see fit .

Recently, I had a conversation with someone and she stated how in school that she didn’t have very many friends. These girls would say one day that they were her friend then the next day they wouldn’t…you know grade school/junior high/ high school stuff. I told her when I was in school that I had some friends, but not a LOT of friends, as I didn’t "fit" into their scheme of how I should be. I couldn’t and still can’t be fake—drives me absolutely crazzeeeee!! Anyhow, I told this young lady, that your true friends will stay by your side no matter the times and won’t change their minds off and on! You know, its nice to have a lot of friends, but its more important to have real friends. At the end of our conversation, this person seemed to be a little bit more relaxed. Spreading positive words is what is in everybody’s interests in their lives.

So yeah what if I did say I can’t be fake??!! I’m not judging those who can, for whatever reason they have to hide their true feelings…whether it be for work, personal reasons, or their own preferences of not wanting to hurt another persons feelings. I can understand that, BUT, please don’t expect me to be someone I’m not. Just a word of advice out there for anyone—if someone asks me to give an honest opinion you have two chances of thinking it over before I give it to you, so think good and hard as you may not like my response, but then again, you could be pleasantly surprised; who knows, I’m like that J

Back to my original subject (grin)! How does musik allow you to thrive? For me, I can let loose, even if I’m feeling crappy health wise, I can go through all the emotions I want. It flows like good blood is supposed to flow through your veins, at least that’s how it is for this chicky! PS—only I can call myself a chick- you aren’t allowed J

Sound off, I want to hear what musik does for you!!

Don’t forget to not only support your big favorite bands, but support your local musicians –they need support too and musik is in their veins as thick as a milkshake or smoothie J !!!
